Their lining up...to take over the world!!!

I just snagged this picture off of "The Pioneer Woman's" website!!! Woudn't ya just croak a doke if opened your door tonight and saw this crowd? Tomorrow, all the wonderful teachers across the nation will have to deal with Acute cases of ADD, I'm quite certain! SUGAR...ya gotta love it! (as I'm sitting here devouring 2 of the most minuscule Mounds bars EVER!) Can they seriously make these bite sized things any smaller??
I've never really liked this "holiday". There...I got that out! Don't get me wrong...I truly enjoy the little ones coming around dressed up in cute costumes (as long as it's not evil...b/c evil scares me!) but it's the Jr. High and High School kids (and EVEN THEIR PARENTS!) that make me wanna shut my door and hibernate in the basement! We have so many that just come around in regular street clothes (which ARE often a costume in itself!), carrying pillowcases, not saying one word when you open the door, then leave without so much as a thank you. Don't ya just want to konk em on the noggin and say "TRICK"? I know I need to love them, but it's a stretch for me on this particular day. I used to give tracts out with the candy...but I didn't get any this year. We are going to a little shin dig at Jeanne's house tonight anyhow, so we'll only have about an hour of the cute little munchkins then we get to leave about the time the real goblins come out!

Just had to get this off my chest! : ) Betcha didn't know this about me, huh? So, now am I an "Apethetic AND a Pathetic Christian"?

Friday Favorite

With gutsty winds and blowing snow right around the corner, I pulled out one of my trusted handy-dandy "tools" for Fall and Winter cooking! It's a microplaner and I got it at one of the kitchen gadget stores in an outlet mall. I've watched Ina Garton, Martha Stewart and a few other fancy pants chefs use it so I guess I thought if I were to be a good cook, I needed one in my drawer too! I have not been disappointed! Perfect for grating fresh nutmeg (and there IS a difference girls!) and freshly grated cinnamon. (used with cinnamon sticks, but I'm sure you figured that one out!) I've also used it for parmesan cheese for very fine powder and lemon and lime zest. You know me...when I pay over $10.00 for anything, I'm going to find more than one use for it! Ha! It's so pretty to serve Pumpkin Pie with fresh whipped cream and a light dusting of freshly ground nutmeg or cinnamon on top! Same goes with Hot Cocoa...just that little extra touch that makes your guests think they are being treated oh so special! Next week, I'll show you my favorite whipped cream maker! Get ready to say..."oooohhhh"!!!! ; )

What's a kitty when there is a BABY to look at??

Meet my grandchild! Isn't he/she BEAUTIFUL? ; ) I had no idea that my heart could get any fuller....until these pictures came!

Ahhhhh.....somebody pinch me!

Our future President...

WARNING: This is too long. Grab a cup of coffee, skip what I have to say and just go to John MacArthur's part!
I don't know about you, but the past couple months my email box has been filled with well meaning "forwards" that relate to the upcoming election. My first response was to remind myself that we are to "submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established...consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves." No matter who the people of the U.S. elect as our next president, it is ultimately our God who places these authorities into office. For us to act as though it would be a huge mistake or failure on the part of apathetic Christians who don't exercise their "duty" to vote, simply implies the idea that our future is in our hands! I seldom get involved in political conversation b/c I know nothing about running a country and I have no idea how to balance the U.S. budget, develop pipelines to get local oil or how to communicate with foreign leaders. However, I DO know how to balance my family budget, fill the car with gas after making myself aware of local gas prices, cut out frequent shopping trips (in order to help balance our budget as well as help conserve gas!!) and offer encouragement by communicating to my family and friends, when sometimes words are not even needed! I know this is what I'm called to do and I LOVE my job!

Something far greater has impacted me in regards to these 'political agenda' emails however. As I began to think about how easy it is to click "forward" as a way to demonstrate our Christian faith and the potential impact this election "seems to have" on our future, over and over I wonder if this might be how we as believers are now approaching evangelism in this "Post Modern Emerging Era"? It's so easy, isn't it? Just "click" and forward...nothing hard, no rejection involved (since we'd never know if the party at the other end just deleted it without reading it) and we think we've done the Lord a great favor by spreading "truth?" to a nation. TRUTH? Regardless if the gossip and slander in these emails is actually true or not, it is still slander and not edifying to anyone. Christians are desparately hoping to put a godly man into office as if forwarding these emails is going to do that. Do we REALLY think that one candidate over another will make our lives as believers easier and is spreading rumors and slander in order to influence others to vote the same way REALLY biblical? I have come to expect this type of behavior in the media prior to elections, but the Christian community has jumped on board, hook line and sinker! Have we forgotten that "in this world we will face various trials and tribulations" and that people will continue to reject Christ even unto the end of the age? "The road is narrow that leads to salvation and few are on it"...I turn there often to check which road I'm on! IS there a godly candidate up for election? Are they just saying what they want "Christians" to hear by using buzzwords in order to gain a vote? So many questions and not knowing the character of any of these people personally makes it very difficult for me to cast a vote with a clear conscience before God.

All that said, I read the following message today about Christians and their "duty". Thought it was worth posting since I'm fairly certain that each of you might be struggling with some of the thoughts I've pondered over the past couple months. Or maybe it's crystal clear to you who your vote will go to. I for one struggle with the rumors I've read and heard about Senator Obama, yet I cannot bring myself to vote for a woman to run the country if her older male counterpart were to die during office. (okay, I'm playing the "what if" game here!!) I'm still praying and seeking God for what I should do in light of the election or if I am even to cast my ballot. (Does this make me an apethetic Christian??) I trust my Savior to lead me and to give me grace to submit to my leaders, therefore my continual prayer is, "Thy will be done".

Christian Duty in a Pagan Culture
John MacArthur
In an increasingly secular and ungodly culture, many Christians wonder about their role and duty. Should we lobby for rights that have traditionally belonged to us? Should we make every effort to implement a Christian agenda? Should we completely reform the government? The Bible speaks clearly about our duty, and it's all about governing our character.
Over a quarter of a century ago the late apologist and Christian thinker Francis Schaeffer asked the question, "How should we then live?" in his landmark book of the same title. The relevance of that question has not changed. If anything, it has only become more urgent for believers at the dawn of a new century and millennium.
Society has taken a nosedive into greater and greater evil, debauchery, violence, and corruption, and outside the church, the landscape seems filled with "modern barbarians." The temptation is strong for believers to jump into the cultural fray as self-righteous social/political reformers and condescending moralizers. All the while those self-styled Christian activists forget or ignore their true mission in the world and completely miss the answer to Schaeffer's question--an answer that God's Word spells out quite clearly.
As noble as a desire to reform society may be, and as stirring as the emotions sometimes are when involved in the "rightness" of a political cause, those activities are not to be the Christian's chief priorities. God does not call the church to influence the culture by promoting legislation and court rulings that advance a Scripture point of view. Nor does He condone any type of radical activism that would avoid tax obligations, disobey or seek removal of government officials we don't agree with, or spend an inordinate amount of time campaigning for a so-called Christian slate of candidates.
The church will really change society for the better only when individual believers make their chief concern their own spiritual maturity, which means living in a way that honors God's commands and glorifies His name. Such a concern inherently includes a firm grasp on Scripture and an understanding that its primary mandate to us is to know Christ and proclaim His gospel. A godly attitude coupled with godly living makes the saving message of the gospel credible to the unsaved. If we claim to be saved but still convey proud, unloving attitudes toward the lost, our preaching and teaching--no matter how doctrinally orthodox or politically savvy and persuasive--will be ignored or rejected.
The New Testament is very clear about how we ought to embrace and live out our primary mission in a pagan society. One such example is in Titus 3:
Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed, to malign no one, to be uncontentious, gentle, showing every consideration for all men. (vv. 1-2)
Notice that Paul simply followed the Lord's model and did not expend time and energy admonishing believers on how to reform pagan culture's idolatrous, immoral, and corrupt practices. The apostle also did not call for believers to exercise civil disobedience to protest the Roman Empire's unjust laws or cruel punishments. Instead, his appeal was for Christians to proclaim the gospel and live lives that would give clear evidence of its transforming power.
Believe it or not, Christians have obligations to a pagan society. When you live as God wants you to in an unbelieving culture, the Holy Spirit uses your life to draw the sinner by softening his attitude toward God (cf. 1 Peter 2:12).
Submission and Obedience
The first two duties--submission to government and obedience to all human authority--I've combined under one heading because they are so closely related. They are just one more reminder that Christians have certain requirements of attitude and conduct in relation to their secular leaders. Those reminders reiterate the idea that believers are not exempt from following civil laws and directives, unless such orders contradict the Word and will of God (see Acts 4:18-20; 5:40-42). That twofold prompting also gives us the scriptural premise from which all our other public actions ought to flow.
Readiness for Good Works
Our third major duty toward society is to have a readiness "for every good deed." Here the apostle Paul is not referring to some minimal, reluctant adherence to doing what we already know is right, but to a sincere willingness and heart preparation to do good works to everyone, as we have the opportunity. No matter how antagonistic the people around us may be, we are to be kind servants to them when their lives intersect with ours. "So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all men, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith" (Galatians 6:10).
God wants us to be recognized for what we might call "consistent and aggressive goodness"--good deeds done out of love for the Lord and love for other people.
Respectful in Speech
Next, we have the scriptural duty of not maligning anyone, not even those unbelievers who are most antagonistic toward biblical standards. Titus 3:2 begins with Paul's command "to malign no one," and refers to cursing, slandering, and treating with contempt. In fact the Greek term rendered "malign" is the one from which we derive the English word blasphemy. We can never use such speech with a righteous motive.
It is sad that many believers today speak scornfully of politicians and other public figures. When they do that, they actually manifest a basic disregard of their responsibility toward authority and hinder God's redemptive plan. In another of Paul's pastoral letters, he urges us to pray for everyone's salvation, even for that of those who occupy official positions of authority (1 Timothy 2:1-4).
Peaceful and Gentle
Paul goes on in verse 2 to mention two more Christian duties. First, he reminds us that we must be friendly and peaceful toward the lost, not belligerent and quarrelsome. In the ungodly, postmodern world we live in, it's easy to condemn those who contribute to the culture's demise and write them off as corrupt sinners who will never change. If God's love for the world was so broad and intense that His Son died for a multitude of sinners (John 3:16), how can we who have received that redeeming grace be harsh and unloving toward those who have not yet received it? Until God is pleased to save an individual, he or she is going to behave like an unbeliever, and it is wrong for us, meanwhile, to treat them contemptuously for acting according to their nature.
Secondly, Paul reminds us that we must be "gentle," a word in the Greek that means being fair, moderate, and forbearing toward others. Some have translated this term "sweet reasonableness," a definition denoting an attitude that does not hold grudges but gives others the benefit of the doubt.
Consideration for Others
The final duty in the apostle Paul's list of reminders to believers is that they should be "showing every consideration for all men" (v. 2). The word rendered "consideration" always has a New Testament meaning of genuine concern for others.
Scripture clearly describes Jesus as the One supremely characterized by humility, or consideration for everyone--the same trait that should identify His followers. Jesus used the word to depict Himself when He told His followers, "Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls" (Matthew 11:29, emphasis added).
All our dealings with unbelievers should display that kind of attitude, as the apostle Peter also wrote: "Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence" (1 Peter 3:15). Sincere, heartfelt consideration to all men is foundational for our Christian walk in a pagan society.
Our duty as we relate to an increasingly secular and ungodly culture is not to lobby for certain rights, the implementation of a Christian agenda, or the reformation of the government. Rather, God would have us continually to remember Paul's instructions to Titus and live them out as we seek to demonstrate His power and grace that can regenerate sinners. Changing people's hearts one individual at a time is the only way to bring meaningful, lasting change to our communities, our nation, and even the whole world.

Happy BELATED BD Robin!

Isn't she pretty?? I missed posting my one and only sister-in-law's BD page! That was the day my Arizona kids were on their way and my plate was full that day, so I apologize!! Actually, didn't even think of doing it until today when I did Scotts page, then I remembered! Argh...old age has crept upon me!
Anyhow...I wanted to give Robin a belated BD shout out on my blog! We had a wonderful dinner with them last Friday night as a celebration! She is an awesome cook and made the best lasagne I've ever had! In fact, there isn't anything that I've ever tasted out of her kitchen that was less that perfect! I love her decorating tastes and talents and she has surely made their house a "home". She is such a thoughtful woman and we are so thankful to have her in our family for she adds a dimension that is just beautiful! Robin is so health conscious too, always inspiring me with her food ideas and exercise routines. Now, if only I could keep up....maybe, just maybe...oh wait, this is about HER! : ) I love you Robin and hope you had a marvelous BD!!

Happy BD Scott!

I don't even think my dear brother looks at my blog, but I wanted to wish him a very happy 43rd Birthday!! Growing up with a brother 10 years younger than me has been quite an interesting time! At first, I was so excited that "we" were going to have a baby!! I was only 9 at the time, so new babies were all good! I never took into consideration that I had been an "only child" to that point and when his little mug came on the scene I no longer was the one getting all the attention and I had to learn to share. I don't think I did that very well, b/c the next stage was that of me babysitting for him! He would always say, "You're not my mom" and got away with many a thing b/c I wasn't! hehe! I didn't like it much when I was 14 and he was 4 and we'd go to the store together and people would think he was MY son! Ewwww!!! Then...came the time of life I started to date. You would think I would have learned not to talk in front of him b/c he would repeat some pretty embarassing things in front of my "suitors" that made me feel a little less than an inch high! He still likes to do that...then grin that BIG sheepish grin that screams "I'M INNOCENT"!! Still my little brother!
When I met Dennis, Scott was 7 yrs. old and thought he was IT! Dennis had "pimped out" {can I say that on here??} 73 Roadrunner and Scott thought it was so cool! I remember once when he wanted to surprise Dennis by washing it for him...which he did in our front yard, then he waxed it with Floor Wax. That didn't work out so well, but he polished his little arm off to get all the white paste off of it. I will say, that car never needed waxing again! Ha!
Scott grew up to be a great man! He loves the Lord and is married to Robin, who adores him! He is a man of good character and is always here when I need him! (Even when I don't!) Ha! I love being his sister and am so thankful to God for all the blessings he gives! Happy BD Scott...I love you!

IT'S A GIRL!!!

GOTCHA!!! No, I'm not talking about my grandbaby, but MY baby! Dennis and I are the new parents of a 1 yr. old, 7 lb. 13 oz. baby girl kitty...Domestic Short Hair they call her. Do you think she's a tabby? I'm at a loss on breeds but this little girl is pretty sweet. She's still learning her way around here but I think she'll fit in nicely. Sue Z., a gal Ally used to work with at AMF, sent out a mass email a couple days ago that her daughter had gotten a kitty, but she couldn't keep her in her apt., so she was up for rapid adoption before she had to pay a $1300 deposit. Dennis and I talked about it and decided we were ready again after loosing Toby 7 months ago. Anyhow...we drove over to Orland after church and fell in love with this little darlin! Poor Robyn...she has had "FeeBee" for 3 weeks but just couldn't keep her so this is hard for her to let her go! I feel so bad for her, knowing what it's like to loose a kitty and am thankful she only had 3 weeks to attach to her! She was such a good mommie!! That cat has more toys than a child does!!
Still working on a name. We don't know what her name was for the first year, but Robyn named her FeeBee 3 weeks ago...and I think it's cute but Dennis can hardly get those 2 syllables out! MEN! He called her "Fee-Fee", Fee-ney", "Figi", "Gigi" and everything else but her name so I agreed to let him rename her! Well, that was a mistake! He called her T.C. (for Top Cat!) Didn't like that, so he named her Cat then Kitty. (um...yeah...I took back over at that point!) How about "Pipka"? He called her "Dicka", "Dipka" {okay...WHAT is so hard about Pipka?? And WHY can't he at least get the first letter...P...P...Pipka, not D...D...Dipka!!!} Good grief!! Could this be any harder??
Sooo...on to the next name. PUNKIN...how sweet is that?? Besides, she was born in Oct. of last year, and we got her in Oct. of this year...perfect, right?? Dennis asked if I could take her to the Vet and tell them her real name was "Punkin Harvey". Well, OF COURSE I could! He thought we should keep searching! I reminded him that this one is going to be an INDOOR kitty only, so he wouldn't have to go out on the porch and holler "P-U-N-K-I-N!!!" every night making the neighbors wonder if he was calling for his wife! Still, he didn't like that very well. {i got to practice submission today! that was fun!}
NEXT...She was so noisy all the way home and I remembered Piper! (Toby was a mute cat for the last 10 yrs. so it was odd having an animal that acutally made noise again!) I have always liked that name way back from my Lincoln days...and since neither of my daughters like that name for a child, I'm free to use it on a pet. So...for tonight..we are calling her Piper. At least I am...Dennis tries, but it sounds so funny coming from his mouth! He's always had boy cats...so this little lady looks at him strangly when he tries to exhibit his "feminine side" and throw his voice an octive above what it really is! I tried having him practice by saying, "I'm not like other boys", but he wouldn't cooperate! Ha....Dennis doesn't have a feminine blood cell in his body! Right girls??? I've warned him...to not make her hiss...or HE's in the doghouse! Ha!!! (just kidding!)
Anyhow....here's our new baby until May...then she'll have to step aside for the REAL baby!

Friday Favorite

I cleaned my house today, picking up tiny dollhouse decorations and taking toys back to the basement and found many "favorite things" leftover from B, A and R's visit, BUT....I took the most pleasure today in rearranging a corner of my kitchen countertop! It's an often overlooked corner b/c it's behind a door. I've had it the same for almost 8 years now and after a thrift store run yesterday, there was a new lamp that found it's way to my little corner! ($6.00!!) I love Fall...the colors and sounds of the seasons changing is so comforting to me, but there is a part of me that longs for Spring again too! This is THE perfect lamp! Toile, which is one of my favorite decorating fabrics with a tiny birds nest nestled on it's branches which reminds me that Spring will return after the cold days of winter! So...now, as we are headed towards the blustery season, I will be reminded of the warm days ahead. In the meantime, I'll have a lamp on to keep my kitchen cozy as the days get shorter and the snow flies!

Four Years ago today, Adam and Allyson were married! Today, they are still happy little lovebirds! They bring us great joy and we are so thankful they walk with the Lord, making their load light! Praise God for the blessing of marriage! We love you and pray that you have many, many more anniversaries in the future!
Just a little update...A&A left last night for a 2 night stay in Michigan for their anniversary gift to one another! Fall in Michigan is just beautiful and this year is no exception. My lil' Cupcake is in town!

What a blessing this little girl is to my heart!! And just think..the Lord is giving me another one in May!! Amy is feeling very good the past 2 days (THANK YOU LORD for answered prayers!!) and her and Brian went downtown tonight to see 'Wicked'. You know what that means....Grammy Cheryl and Papa Dennis got to babysit! Actually, I loved getting to give her my UNDIVIDED attention all evening! We played dollhouse, Barbies, 2 games of Memory (she won one and I won one...that girl is SMART!!), took a bath and washed hair, had a nail painting party then read 2 (yes TWO!) books! She said her bedtime prayers and then fell asleep with Dora singing a bedtime song over and over. The room is very quiet now and this grammy's heart is so full it could burst! Thanks for sharing this little precious Sandy!!! I just never imagined....but it is so!
My computer has been down since the cable guy came to install the digital cable stuff, but my personal computer guru came to town and fixed it while Amy and I were off getting our hair cut and colored! She looked so pretty when they left, but I didn't get any pics of them b/c they headed out so quick! My heart is full and overflowing tonight....and I'm tired!!

And to all a goodnight!

Ahhhh....Autumn Leaves!

When I walked by the back bedroom yesterday morning there was a "glow" radiating out into the hall! I had forgotten how beautiful this tree is...but I was reminded once again this morning. It seems the leaves have turned overnight! Before long, these bits of gold will be falling to the ground, making way for new ones to bud out next Spring! I love the change of seasons!

News, updates and whatnots...

Our little peanut is about 1.22 inches long and weighs about 5 grams by the end of this week! His/her eye color is determined now and our little precious will start a rapid growth spurt about now! Total size is about the size of a plum already! So that means this little one has grown from an Olive to a Plum in just a week! (Any comments JULIE?? LOL!) The Lord has this baby's total body plan laid down now! He/she has taste and tooth buds as of this week and the brain is growing at an amazing rate with nearly a quarter of a million new neurons being produced every minute! The wonderful news is that Amy is FINALLY beginning to feel better! Still has her moments, but when I talked to her this afternoon, she had eaten an entire Totino's pizza for lunch! That's more than she's eaten in about 6 weeks! (probably all put together! HA!) Sofar, so good....we'll see if it stayed down! She say's she has a fairly good day, then she has a couple bad ones. Hoping the cool weather and some rain along with Mom's cooking will help distract her from feeling bad. I'm praying for some good days for them and ask you to be praying for Wed. (when they have to fly for 4 hrs to Chicago and Thursday. She'll be tired from traveling, but Brian surprised her with tickets to see 'Wicked' in Chicago that evening and I'm sure hoping she'll feel good that night! Grammy Cheryl, Papa and Rylie will sneak out for pizza while Daddy and Amy are having their own "drama" downtown!

Dad is back in the hospital again. He called Sunday morning right before I was headed to the airport with Carolyn saying he thought he was having a heart attack. Praise the Lord, it wasn't that, but the Drs. still aren't sure what was causing his chest pain and shortness of breath. They've done a ton of tests and given him some antibiotics and he's feeling better. His BP had been doing fine, so he quit taking his meds that raise it so it's low again. (silly man...I'm going to have to go over and count them out for him I guess!) We are hoping he can come back home tomorrow. I know it's hard for Mom for him to be in and out of the hospital like this and it's lonely for him. So please pray for comfort as he recoups again!

Guess that's about all from my part of the world...I'm still basking in the Glory of the Lord from the weekend. Missed Carolyn so much this afternoon that I had to give her a shout out. It's hard when my friends leave me...but the Lord is blessing me with my kiddo's visit this week. All of us will be together Friday evening for BD celebrations! Yahoo!!!

True Women '08

It was a beautiful weekend beginning last Tuesday and continues today! I have been so blessed! Carolyn and I truly had a wonderful time together, but most of all, being challenged in the Word of God by some excellent Bible teachers! Nancy Leigh DeMoss is a sister in Christ and a very humble and beautiful woman from the inside out! This wasn't like the typical Women's Conference I've ever attended, but rather, very worshipful and convicting since she didn't tap dance around scriptures but got straight to the point! Can you imagine a Women's conference without breaks?? Well, this one was such a conference! It was like drinking cool water from the well! Pastor John Piper is a man of God...used greatly this weekend. If you ever get to hear him, draw it in! I'll let the pictures tell the story, but I left a changed woman. YES, LORD!

True Women Conference

No...Nancy Leigh DeMoss isn't my "girlfriend"!!! I'm talking about CAROLYN KAY! I'm getting ready to go to the airport to pick her up this morning and enjoy 5 wonderful days with her! Today, her flight arrives around noon and we'll head for Subway or somewhere we can find a low point lunch! Then...the plan is to stop at some great thrift stores on the "West SIEEDE"! We're just going to putz around here today and tomorrow, then on Thursday, we're headed back west to do a little shopping and eating in St. Charles/Geneva area. Fun little historic/antique towns! Thurs. afternoon, we move on up to Schaumburg, where we will spend 2 days with Nancy Leigh DeMoss, John Piper, Joni Eareckson Tada, Dannah Gresh and others that we have listened to and read over the years. Pray that this will be a time of solid biblical teaching and encouragement as well as a renewal of our spirit for all women in attendance. Sometimes a girl just needs a "pick me up" and this weekend is going to be that time for us! If you have time, it seems you can listen to some of the conference speakers live online! Check it out HERE! Wish you were all here this weekend! Wouldn't THAT be a fun slumber party!

My Grandbaby is the size of a Medium Olive!

He/She is 9 weeks gestation today! I know Amy would love to be blogging about her pregnancy and how she feels and what is going on each month, but poor thing is too sick to care most of the time. (Old wives tale would indicate a girl child b/c of the intense nausea, but only the Lord knows!) I don't know if any of you girls knew this, but I was a labor and delivery nurse for about 8 years, back in the day. I've been away from it for a LONG (reeeallly long) time, but it's all coming back to me as I study about the growth of the unborn child again. Isn't it amazing what God does to bring a child into the world? I could go on and on about it, but I won't....aren't cha glad?
Anyhow...our baby is the size of a medium green olive today! So tiny and so well protected...and so perfect! It's little toes are formed and it's eyes are fully formed. It is also beginning to move as a result of the muscle being laid down, although Amy can't feel it yet. I'm so excited for their appointment on Monday so they can hear the heartbeat! Oh...how I wish I were there for that! When I was pregnant with both of the girls, I was working in the hospital. I would go in early each morning just so I could strap on the monitor and hear them talk to me! There is SUCH a rush when you hear that thumpity thump! I seriously could have laid there listening to it for hours! I wish I could have, b/c Amy takes after her mama...I too was sick as a dog for longer than I care to remember! This too shall pass! We're praying for you Ame...it's going to get better!!

Starting my Day RIGHT...

Thank you Natalie for starting this sweet "trend"! It's going to be so neat to see what all our other bloggies love! I've been thinking about this since you posted the idea earlier this week and I love so many "things"! It's challenged me in my thinking, I will say that! Some of the first things that came to mind were the "treasures" I 've gotten as gifts and have picked up at thrift stores or garage sales. Then my mind switched to pictures of people...and how much they mean to me. Of course, if you follow my blog at all, you know I love to cook and take pictures of the food. I'm a visual person and it gives such a boost to see snaps, don't ya think? So...then I had to start honing down the choices. Of course, when I evaluated what I treasure the most there is nothing that compares to my old torn and tattered Bible! I would give up EVERY stinkin' material treasure in this universe before I'd give this book up! So...this is my 'Favorite Thing' for this Friday.
That, and of course a cup of coffee. Todays blend is "Icing on the Cake" Regular! With a tiny splash of REAL 1/2 & 1/2. Give me this combination and I'm content and settled in for 30 minutes or so! Maybe in a couple of weeks I can put on here a picture of my treadmill. Oh...I'd LOVE to say that that was one of my favorite things!

Can't wait to see what you all put on your blogs today! I'm off to check em out!!

God is in a Class by Himself

Day 8: God Is in a Class by Himself

Heart Prep posted on 10.01.08 by Kimberly Wagner

Scripture Focus: Isaiah 44
“I, the LORD, am the maker of all things, stretching out the heavens by Myself and spreading out the earth all alone.” —Isaiah 44:24, NASB

In the book of Isaiah, God repeatedly makes statements like this: “I am the LORD, and there is no other; besides Me there is no God” (45:5, NASB). It seems as if that should be obvious. We may feel like responding, “Duh! Of course there is no other!”But God does not waste His words, and He has good reason to include this significant point and repeat it multiple times throughout the book of Isaiah. It is necessary to remind us that He is God, because we so quickly act as if He is not. At times, we even try to be our own god.Rarely do we admit it, or are probably even aware of it, when we are attempting to play God or step into His position. But every time we choose to disobey Scripture, every time we take things into our own hands or decide to go our own way, we are dethroning God and stepping into that role ourselves. God does not need our help in running the universe—He stretched it all out and put it into place all by Himself. But we sure try to give Him advice all along the way! What are some ways we might attempt to play God? Perhaps you can relate to some of these:

• When we accept a job offer without seeking God and asking Him to lead us . . . we are playing God.

• When we need to clean our house but choose to lie in front of the TV instead . . . we are playing God.

• When we know God commands us to treat our husband with respect but we choose to speak to him with demeaning words or attitudes . . . we are playing God.

• When we choose to spend time visiting with friends when our children need time from us . . . we are playing God.

• When we are rude to a store clerk because we think we deserve better treatment . . . we are playing God.

• When we try to force God to make exceptions for us or to change His plan for our life because things aren’t going according to our plans . . . we are playing God.

Take Time to ReflectAsk God to open your eyes to any ways you may be attempting to instruct, argue with, or disobey Him. Prayerfully read Isaiah 44.

It's time to make the doughnuts!!

I had a itty bitty hankerin' for doughnuts yesterday, but I got through it. It was so chilly and cloudy this afternoon that I didn't quite make it through it today! Don't days like these just get you in the mood for cooking and comfort foods or is it just me?

I'm not a good doughnut maker! I have tried so many times, but always come up with too firm a dough, not cooked enough (the reason for that is that the grease is too hot!) or soggy. I don't make good glaze for doughnuts either! I've never been a fan of "day old" doughnuts, b/c of this factor. The frosting "weeps" and makes the whole thing tough and just a ball of too sweet dough, so if you ask me, yeast doughnuts only have a small window of time where they are good...right after you make them.

Okay....this afternoon, I started searching online for THE "perfect doughnut" recipe. Many, MANY searches led me back to the same chef, Alton Brown. I've watched him on The Food Network and I'll have to say that he's not one of my fav's but I guess he has a good recipe for doughnuts since his reviews were over the top. So....I printed it out and headed for the kitchen. Determined that we were not going to WAY overeat nice warm glazed doughnuts, I chose to make 1/2 a recipe. (that's also incase they flopped, but honestly, if you're going to heat up and waste that much oil you might as well make a full batch!) Below is my yeast proofing...making sure it's good. My mamma taught me to do that a long time ago so's I don't waste all the ingredients if the yeast is not good. I also use freshly grated nutmeg which makes a big difference in cooking! (See that little bowl above the yeast? That's honey butter!! I made a little batch of that last night to go with the Trader Joes Cornbread...and girls...that was tasty!!!) Okay, back to the doughnuts...

The yeast is good! I've got my countertop floured and ready to go. Don't get grossed out ladies. I clean it off good before I start, but I'm way too uncordinated to use one of those pastry mats. I just make a mess!
Doughnuts cut and ready for raising! I always use the little center cuts too...it makes PERFECT bite sized nibblin's! I'm sure there is only 1/2 point in each of those little things! ; ()
Okay, I'm NOT going to get that oil too hot this time! Got the candy thermometer out and there is a line at 365 degrees that says "DEEP FAT FRYING". (I wish they wouldn't put it THAT way! "Frying doughnuts" would be nicer, don't ya think?) It just drives me bonkers when I get that far and the silly things get sunburned before they get done! Makes for hard crusted doughnuts with a stretchy center. Nobody likes that! By the way...I use lowfat oil!
Did ya fall for that? There is no such thing as lowfat oil! If you're going to fry , just DO IT for goodness sake! Walk an extra mile in the morning! I don't fry much, but I can't imagine baking doughnuts. I did find a recipe for it, but as you might expect, there was not one star shining by it!
Now...this is the "cooks treat" or for some of you girls, this would tide the kiddo's over until Daddy gets home! I sprinkled these with powdered sugar. Cinnamon sugar would be sweet too!
This is the best glaze recipe ever!!! The only thing I did different than my own glaze recipe was to heat the milk and vanilla up first, then whisk the sifted powdered sugar into that and glaze! Also, the directions told me to let the doughnuts cool 15-20 min. before glazing. Normally I don't do that. This may keep them from soggin? I don't know.
Oh...aren't they swell looking? The glaze was a little hardened like Krispy Kreme's! But the doughnut wasn't sickening sweet like K.K.'s! So...this one is a winner!! Here is the recipe of you want it. If you'd like the glaze recipe, you can find it here. It'd be fun to make doughnuts with the kiddo's! Not too healthy though. I'm sure I won't make doughnuts for another year. Usually one time in the Fall and I'm good for a year! Aren't we thankful for that?

Now, I don't want you to think I didn't make one thing that was healthy for dinner tonight!!! See those little things circled below?? Well, those are carrots, peas and corns! Perfectly healthy dish! I just went a little overboard on the carbs tonight, but the comfort food worked for me!
I'm comforted!
